Our son will soon be 11 years old. He underwent two epispadius repairs at two of the best hospitals in New England. While he has made progress on the continence side, his tetsicles are bigger than they used to be and he is able to urinate straight, he barely has any lengtht at all. Lately, it's starting to eat away at his usually very positive, upbeat, loving personality. When I bring this up to his urologist, he seems to dismiss the importance of his having length and has a "that's the way it's going to be" kind of attitude. After reading epispadias forums, I'm now starting to understand that others have experienced the same thing with their urologist and they recommend finding a certified plastic surgeon for the lengthening as this is beyond the Urologist capability.

When my son gets an errection, he says that he can feel his shaft getting hard deep inside him. This is making me think that a suspensory ligament release might be a good next step. If my son isn't pleased with these results, then we can explore phalloplasty tissue grafts.

He started puberty around a year ago.

Are we heading down the right paths ? Are these areas of your expertise ? If so, what are the next steps (wait for puberty to finish ? send you digital images ? if so, how ? get a copy of his medical files ?....).

Thanks and regards,
Michael
